Johann Jacob Donat clavichord 1700

Double fretted clavichord after Johann Jacob Donat.
Original built in Leipzig in 1700, kept at the Grassi Museum für Musikinstrumente der Universität Leipzig (inventory nr 12), C-c3 chromatic, signed Johann Jacob Donat September 1700, original temperament meantone 1/4 of a comma. This instrument reproduces the original Donat model very closely, except for the fretting scheme, which originally was rather peculiar (see Peter Bavington's remarks on that subject), and which I changed to get the « normal » diatonic fretting scheme. The whole of the bass octave is unfretted.

C-c3, tuning after wish (e.g. Kirnberger 3, Werckmeister 3, meantone, etc.), case in pear wood, wrestplank in oak, bridge in beech, lime keyboard with boxwood and pear wood veneer.
